How to get there!

Silver Mountain Resort is located in Kellogg, Idaho on the Idaho panhandle and is less than 1 hour East of Spokane, WA or 2 hours West of Missoula, MT. The resort itself is just off the highway and you can’t miss it when you turn off of Interstate 90 into Kellogg.

Silver Mountain Resort – Where to Stay

We loved our stay at the Morning Star Lodge. The Morning Star Lodge is a condominium development that has several different floor plan options for whatever size family you are bringing. We were so happy that there was a kitchen as well. If you want to save a little money and not eat out, it’s very easy to do here. Some of the condos are pet friendly if you are traveling with your furry friend with a small pet deposit and we actually brought both of our dogs along with us. If you choose to stay in the Morning Star Lodge, your stay includes passes to the Silver Rapids Indoor Water Park for the day of check in and the whole entire day of departure. Check out the Splash and Stay package!

*If you don’t want to spend the night, this is also a great spot to come spend the day swimming or skiing and head back home later (after tiring out the kids!)

Things to do at the Silver Mountain Resort and Waterpark in any season!

Two things you can do all year at Silver Mountain Resort are to ride the Gondola and visit the Silver Rapids Indoor Water Park (a kid’s paradise)! They also have the Solitude Spa located in the village. We have not visited the spa, but check out their website for a list of services.

Silver Mountain Gondola Ride

The gondola at the Silver Mountain Resort is North America’s longest gondola! The ride is a 3.1 mile trip and takes about 25 minutes from the base of the resort near the lodge to the Mountain House. You can get to the top and enjoy the beautiful views, fresh air, and stop to get a beer or food. Several hikes and mountain biking trails start here in the summer as well. Through the summer months, there is a ride and dine special once a week which has live music at the top of the mountain (this does require advanced reservation). Also, if you’re skiing or snowboarding, you will have to take the gondola up the mountain to get started. Check this website for hours of operation and ticket sales or purchase tickets at the ticketing booth near the gondola entrance.

Silver Rapids Indoor Water Park

One of the best things, about the Silver Mountain Resort is the Silver Rapids Waterpark! I could not believe how many different attractions there are! Inside the water park is a lazy river, several waterslides, an area for small children, a hot tub, and so much more. There is also a full bar and restaurant within the park! Our 20 month old absolutely loved the water slides and we had a blast watching him run around and yell “more! more!” All tickets must be booked ahead of time – book here! However, that only applies if you are not staying at the lodge. If you are staying within the lodge, access to the water park is included and you do not have to book a separate ticket. If you are staying at the lodge, you get access to the waterpark after check-in and also for the entire next day!

Things to do at the Silver Mountain Resort in the Summer

Silver Mountain Bike Park

Silver Mountain Bike Park has been voted the #1 bike park in the Northwest for the past four years! There are a wide variety of trails ranging from easy to expert. The bike park trails can be accessed by taking the gondola up the mountain. If you want to rent equipment, that is available as well.

Hiking at Silver Mountain Resort

Kellogg Peak Fire Lookout: 4.0 miles roundtrip, elevation gain 870 feet (intermediate). The trail starts at the Mountain House at the top of the gondola. I have not hiked this trail yet, but I love a good fire lookout trail. Watch for huckleberries along the trail!

Galena Ridge Golf Course

The Galena Ridge Golf Course is a 9-hole course located in the mountains of the Silver Valley. Although the course is only 9 holes, there is a plan for 18 holes at some point. This course contains par 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s.

Things to do at the Silver Mountain Resort in the Winter

Skiing & Snowboarding

Come for a full day of skiing or snowboarding before you hit the hot tub or the water park. They have five chairlifts and 73 named trails. In addition if you want a day of skiing without kids, Silver Mountain has a daycare for kids aged 2-7. Silver Mountain Resort also offers lessons.

Snow Tubing

Not into skiing? You can also hit the slopes by doing some snow tubing! Silver Mountain Resort offers two hour sessions and if your kids are at least 36″ tall and over two years old, they can participate. You probably will want to book a reservation for this activity here ahead of time since they regularly sell out.

Where to eat at the Silver Mountain Resort

I’ll be honest, the food didn’t blow me away. The resort has several places to eat, and the ones we tried were all fine, but nothing I was really overly impressed with. That being said, I think many of the places will satisfy your kids and provides options that most families, even those with picky eaters would be fine with. There is Wildcat Pizza, Mo’s Froyo and Joe, breakfast place, coffee options, and a cafeteria style restaurant at the top of the mountain. They also have a bar, Moguls, at the top of the mountain with microbrews on tap. And the Silver Rapids Waterpark has a restaurant and bar which serves tropical drinks, appetizers, and a variety of other foods like pizza and wraps. Or since the Morning Star Lodge is equipped with a full kitchen, head to the grocery store and cook your own meals to save money!
