3. Zoo

There isn’t actually a zoo in Spokane, but if your kids are super into animals, it may be worth taking a weekend trip to Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington or to the Portland Zoo in Oregon. Tacoma is about 4.5 hours away and Portland is about a 5.5 hour drive from Spokane.

If you want a small zoo experience, you could surprise your kids with a trip to Cat Tales, a wildlife sanctuary with bears, tigers, bobcats, and more, just north of Spokane in Mead, WA!

Or drive a little farther to Triple Play in Hayden, Idaho.

Silver Mountain Resort also has a kid’s paradise, Silver Rapids Water Park! This water park has everything that kids of every age will love, including a lazy river, waterslides, a small pool for young kids, and a hot tub/bar for the adults. If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, look into buying a day pass to a local pool or staying at an affordable hotel to have access to a pool. Get a new active experience for your kids with classes at Spokane Gymnastics. They can teach gymnastics fundamentals, tumbling and the trampoline, parkour, and even a ninja zone! Other gymnastics studios around town are Dynamic Gymnastics and Evergreen Gymnastics.

Give the gift of dance and potentially a lifelong hobby for your kiddo! There are several dance studios around town with ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and more. At the Spokane Academy of Dance, they even have free tuition for boys to encourage more boys to get involved in dance.

This discovery center has hands-on exhibits like a kids market, a water table, STEAM activities (STEM + art), and multiple other changing exhibits. They offer day passes or annual passes. Can’t afford them at this time? No problem, plan ahead and get day passes from the Spokane City Library. Just make sure to look far enough in advance since passes are limited.

The First Interstate Center for the Arts is a legacy from Spokane’s World Fair in 1974. The facility underwent a 22 million dollar renovation in 2018 and hosts Broadway shows, comedy tours, concerts, and so much more! As a kid, I went to the Lion King and Cinderella on Broadway and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my childhood. See their schedule here!

If you don’t have it in the budget to make it to a Broadway show, consider making it to a show like Disney on Ice, the Spokane Symphony, or a show at the Spokane Civic Theater.
